New Delhi: The All India Muslim Majlis e Mushawarat (AIMMM) today said that the proposed amendments in the Wakf Act is not acceptable to the Muslims. This is totally in contravention of India’s secular and democratic norms and hurts the sentiments of over 220 million minorities. It is the duty of all democratic loving parties to oppose the proposed and frustrate the government attempt to get its passed. Wakf properties have been donated by our forefathers for socio-economic welfare development of the minorities. land and properties also given to various religious place and dargah. The purpose of these amendments seems to usurp or handover these properties to some interested groups and individuals. the government is only a regulatory authority and no attempt should be made to dilute powers of the Wakf Boards.
The AIMMM is ready to seek legal remedy from the apex court if these amendments get approval of the Parliament. There are 30 Wakf Boards in the country and they manage more than 8 Lakh moveable and immoveable properties. The Union cabinet has given its approval to these amendments last Friday.
