The Award Committee of Qaide Millat Educational and Social Trust (Chennai) has also declared Mr. John Dayal as recipient of this prestigious national award for 2024 with Mr. Hamid. This award, which includes Rs 500,000, Certificate and Trophy, has been presented for probity in political and public life, annually since 2015.
New Delhi: The renowned and prestigious institution of South India, the Qaide Millat Social and Educational Trust (Chennai), has announced to present the “ Qaide Millat Award 2024” to former president of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, Mr. Navaid Hamid. According to a notification issued by the trust’s General Secretary M.G. Dawood Mia Khan, this award—established in memory of Qaide Millat Muhammad Ismail, the late founder of the IUML—comprises Rs. 500,000, a certificate of appreciation, and a trophy. It has been awarded annually since 2015 to honor probity in political and public life. This year, the four-member selection committee for the award, chaired by renowned educationist Dr. V. Vasanthi Devi (former Vice-Chancellor of M.S. University), has selected Mr. Navaid Hamid and Mr. John Dayal as successful recipients of the award, which will be presented in a grand ceremony in April 2025.
The Qaide Millat Trust has previously presented this award to Teesta Setalvad, R. Nallakannu, N. Sankariah, Syed Shahabuddin, Manik Sarkar, Hamid Ansari, Aruna Roy, A.G. Noorani, Harsh Mander, Bilkis Bano (Shaheen Bagh’s grandmother), Dr. Irfan Habib, Thiru. K Veeramani, The Wire (digital portal), N. Ram (Editor, The Hindu), and Dr. Abusaleh Shariff.
Mr. Feroz Ahmed Advocate (President, AIMMM), extended his heartfelt congratulations to his predecessor, Mr. Navaid Hamid and renowned journalist and social activist Mr. John Dayal for being selected for this prestigious award. He also conveyed his best wishes to the members of the selection committee as well as the trust’s members and General Secretary, M.G. Dawood Mia Khan.
Mr. Navaid Hamid, who has been working for the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat since the late 1980s, was born on June 23, 1963, in walled city of Delhi. He has been actively engaged in political and social work since his student days at Delhi University. From 2016 to 2023, he served as President of Mushawarat and is currently its Vice President.
During the UPA government, he was considered one of the most influential Muslim leaders in the country. The Government of India appointed him as a member of the National Integration Council for two consecutive terms (2004–2014). He is the founding secretary of the South Asian Council for Minorities (SACM) and the national general secretary of the Movement for Empowerment of Muslim Indians (MOEMIN), where he has rendered significant services. In 2008, during the New Delhi Global Minorities Meet, he was elected General Secretary of the Global Minorities Forum for Justice and Peace, attended by delegates from 18 countries. In 2023–24, he convened the “Violence-Free India” campaign by bringing together the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, Dalit organizations, Christian groups, and other marginalized communities.
